England's local authorities plan to spend £121.9bn on day-to-day activities this year -providing town halls with a 6% increase in annual spending power before the vicious cuts due to hit the sector next year.Data released by the CLG on 30 June shows that budgeted net current expenditure by local authorities in England totals £121.9bn in 2010/11, compared with £11i5bn in 2009/10.It follows the final year of local government's three-year finance settlement agreed by the past Labour Government, and is being viewed by the sector as the last chance to provide generous budget settlements to key services before the coalition government begins to slash local budgets as part of its debt-reduction plan.
