Earlier this month, San Francisco's Board of Supervisors voted 9-2 to approve Mayor Gavon Newsom's mandatory recycling ordinance. Mayor Newsom's ordinance will require all residences and businesses in San Francisco to take advantage of the city's recycling and composting collection programs. While several other cities require recycling service and participation, San Francisco is the first city to require the collection of food scraps and other compostables.
