Teaching about nuclear war presents different challenges today from those we faced in the 1980s at the peak of the Cold War and different challenges for different age groups: students, teachers and retired activists. As doctors from International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War, we focus our presentations on the medical and humanitarian consequences of nuclear war. We began writing and speaking as a team in November 2017, when the insults and threats of nuclear war between the United States and North Korea became more and more alarming. What had sounded like bellicose rhetoric began to sound more like serious preparations for nuclear war.
