Learning Progressions as Babushkas

Smith, Wiser, Anderson, and Krajcik (this issue) present an argument for learning progressions and learning performances. The approach is a kind of Russian nesting doll (babushka) image of successively more sophisticated ways of reasoning with a content domain. Smith et al. make the statement that the learning progressions are grounded in both research syntheses and conceptual analyses, and of importance, that there are multiple plausible paths that might exist for learning progressions.
