Shape-controlled synthesis of cobalt oxide nanocrystals using cobalt acetylacetonate

Cobalt oxide nanocrystals (NCs) with different morphologies have been successfully synthesized through the decomposition of cobalt (II) acetylacetonate (Co(acac)_2) in nonpolar solvent. The growth temperature of NCs was set at 30 ℃ lower than the nucleation temperature to prepare monodisperse NCs. By tuning the injection speed of paraffin oil, CoO nanoparticles and nanoflowers have been obtained, respectively. The variation in ligand concentration changing speed due to different injection speed of extra paraffin oil is supposed to be the reason for the formation of CoO NCs with different nanostructures. The structure and shape properties of as-synthesized cobalt oxide NCs have been studied and characterized using XRD and TEM.
