Alberto Alemdn Zubieta, a backhoe dredger, is the latest addition to the fleet of the Panama Canal Authorities. The backhoe dredger, designed and built by IHC Merwede, will initially be used for the expansion of the Panama Canal and subsequently for its maintenance. This is not the first vessel that IHC Merwede built for the Panamanian fleet, as it was preceded by the delivery of Quibian 1, a cutter suction dredger, in 2010.
