With 100 wrecks in Iran's Kohr-E-Musha Shat al Arab waterway waiting for clearance, Nicolai Michelsen of Oslo-based Miko Marine AS is preparing for a lot of heavy lifting. Late last year the joint venture company that he co-founded, J.V Miko-Batservice, signed two contracts with Tidewater Middle East for wreck removal work in the Persian Gulf. Although the region's politics remain complicated, the Iranian government has finally heeded its own shipping interests and persistent appeals from the International Maritime Organization (IMO) to remove these hazards.
