The Idle Containerrnship fleet fell by almost 1 million TEU over the last six months, as ships have been absorbed by new services launched for the summer peak season, according to AXS Alphaliner.rnAlphaliner's fortnightly survey indicates that the idle fleetrnshrunk from 1,522,000 TEU at the beginning of December 2009 to 549,000 TEU by May 24. In its weekly newsletter, Alpha-liner says "This reduction of almost 1 million TEU of idled tonnage over the last six months has come faster than expected, resulting in vessel shortagesrnin size segments above 4,000 TEU."
