摘要

"The phone rang. It wasrnjust after midnight and Irnhad just gone to bed afterrnThanksgiving. It was my technicalrnmanager in Singapore. He told mernmy ship had been taken by pirates."rnThat's how James Christodoulou, former president and CEO of Industrial Shipping Enterprises Corp., describes how he first learned that his company's ship, the M/V Bisca-glia, had been captured on Nov. 28, 2008 by Somali pirates. The 27,300 dwt tanker Biscaglia, one of two tankers owned by the Stamford, Connecticut-based ISEC, had been on charter to take palm oil from Indonesia to Spain when it was hijacked in the Gulf of Aden by pirates armed with AK-47s and rocket-propelled grenade launchers. The incident took place six months before the Maersk Alabama incident, when piracy captured the American public's attention and that of the major news media outlets.
