MaK M 43 passess 30 000h test

Mach space can bring its readership the results of the first 30 000h overhaul to be carried out on a MaK M 43 engine. The engine in question was installed five years ago by shipowner Heinz Ehler onboard the 658TEU container feeder Anke Ehler, the first vessel of the Sietas 160A Type equipped with the MaK M 43. The following tasks were undertaken: 1. Cylinder heads (remove, dismantle, clean) 2. Valves (measure guides; process seatings; grind, inspect and lap spindles) 3. Injection nozzles (exchange nozzle elements and seals) 4. Pistons (remove, dismantle, clean; inspection of crown and skirt; measurement of rings and grooves) 5. Cylinder liners (inspection and fit replacement calibration ring) 6. Connecting rod bearings (inspection with routine replacement) 7. Main bearings (inspection with routine replacement) 8. Camshaft (inspection of bearings and cam follower) 9. Turbocharger (inspection of components and bearings).
