WEST SHETLAND HEATS UP

Oil and gas activity is heating up in the West of Shetland region offshore the UK,witha numberof fieldsdue to come on-stream in the next couple of years. Containing the Clair, Foinaven and Schiehallion fields, the region is a proven petroleum basin that holds an estimated 17% of the UK's remaining hydrocarbon reserves. French major Total has recently outlined plans to tap the West of Shetland Glenlivet gas-condensate field as a tieback to the Laggan Tormore facilities. The reservoir, which is located 70km north-west of the Shetland coast, in Block 214/30a of the UK continental shelf, will be developed by drilling two production wells connected to a new manifold, with gas and condensate production tied back to Laggan-Tormore by a new subsea Glenlivet production flowline.
