Fuel is very much on the current agenda with less than a year to go before the sulphur limits in ECA regions drop to 0.196 and the possibility of a 0.5% global sulphur cap as soon as 2020 (see page 18 for details). Although there have been numerous solutions put forward to comply with imminent emission targets, LNG has emerged as a frontrunner. Despite numerous challenges such as lack of bunkering infrastructure, disparate safety rules for ship-to-ship bunkering and variations in gas quality, amongst others,the industry has shown its support of the fuel - perhaps because of its competitive pricing, particularly in comparison to distillates.
