Some favourite memories from airplane and helicopter passengers remind us that the North is much more than snow and ice. During her eight years working for Calm Air, Doreen Hyde, born in Churchill and raised in Rankin Inlet, logged plenty of airtime. On occasion she would see hunters motoring out of Nunavut communities such as Rankin Inlet, Chesterfield, Repulse Bay and Naujaat in their boats. "There were a lot out of Rankin Inlet. In Naujaat you see a lot, because it is the end of the whale season. You might even see pods of nar-whales."
