You may wonder what the curiosity is about weblogs. The history and background extends about seven years. Dave Winer claims to have the longest-running weblog on the Internet (http:/ewhome.weblogs. com/historyOfWeblogs) from 1996. The news spread fast and different threads of weblog development are chronicled by Jesse James Garrett, editor of Infosift until late 1999 when he forwarded his work in this area to Cameron Barrett. Barrett published the list on Camworld (see www. camworld.com) which went out on hiatus in December 2002. The lists he maintained of Web sites became known as weblogs, shortened to blogs and the weblog editor became known as a blogger. As the community of followers grew, it was debated what was included as a weblog.
