High-speed Cutting with Ultra-precision Using Fiber Lasers and New Machine Concepts

Modern high-brilliant laser sources increasingly open up new fields of applications. For instance, they are predestinated to increase the production efficiency or the quality of products at precision- and micro-machining. One example is the high-speed precision-cutting using single-mode fiber lasers. If they are adapted to a positioning system offering high dynamic and precision, completely new challenges can be solved. The Bayerisches Laserzentrum together with LLT Applikation, LASAG and Precitec examines the technical potential and capability of this technology. In cooperation with the partners it will present on this year's special exhibit »Photons in Production of the LASER 2009 the cutting process of thin metal foils using feed rates up to 30 m/min at tolerances of +/- 5 μm.
