It is a Sign of the sound development of the new profession of landscape architecture that the American Society of Landscape Architects is issuing as the official organ of the Society a quarterly magazine entitled "Landscape Architecture." A few issues of the magazine will put before the public the very practical nature of the profession and its wide scope. The public needs to be taught that landscape architecture embraces city planning, the arrangement of formal courts, playgrounds, and gardens in compactly built cities, the decoration of highways, and the utilization for human enjoyment of such broad open spaces as forests, water-courses, cultivated fields, and natural meadows provide. Every variety of plantation comes within the province of the profession, and every variety of decoration for house-lots, sites of public buildings, station grounds, and factory yards.
