摘要

When McKenna Cole graduated with an MLA from the Harvard Graduate School of Design in 2013, she had no idea she would be using GIS and spatial analysis to help solve potential murder cases. But soon after joining the Brooklyn-based SITU Studio as the design firm's first landscape architect, Cole found herself sorting through video footage to better understand the events of February 20, 2014. On that day in Kiev, Ukraine, protests against then-president Viktor Yanukovych led to the deaths of 49 civilians and two members of the military. As part of SITU's recently developed Spatial Practice as Evidence and Advocacy (SPEA) program, the 10-year-old design firm is gathering information from roughly 550 "citizen videos," which are being analyzed using 3-D and parametric-modeling software.
