Getting technical

Welcome to Issue 4 of Knitting International magazine, and my debut issue as editor. Together with Kl's assistant editor, Andy Rhodes, I plan on building on the great work of my predecessor Jonathan Dyson by focusing on the technical knits element of the industry. As editor of Future Textile magazine, my background lies in technical textiles - a sector that continues to be enriched by exciting innovations in knit technology. Notable examples include Nike's Flyknit - a material comprising different types of knit patterns for items such as shoe uppers and sports bras, to boost comfort and support; and within the automotive segment, Tenowo's multiknit technology to make highly voluminous fabrics, particularly in seating applications. It's therefore great to see leading knitting machinery players such as Stoll, Shima Seiki, and Karl Mayer embrace this trend by investing in technical applications, which we will continue to report on throughout the year.
