Korean Maritime Law Update: 2007- Focused on the Revised Maritime Law Section in the Korean Commercial Code

The Newly Revised Korean Maritime Law section will be applicable as of Aug. 4, 2008. The new Code is assessed as a good step forward to modernization. It contains provisions recognizing electronic bills of lading, sea waybills and multi-modal transportation. There was a major structural change of the Maritime Law Section in the KCC in relation to charter parties and contracts for the carriage. The New Code has a free-standing chapter for contracts of carriage for individual goods (so-called common carriage).
