Time to translate words into actions

Public transport in 2020 was the main theme at 56th UITP World Congress that took place at the beginning of June in Rome. Over five days more than 2100 mobility and transport professionals from 80 countries discussed, during some 50 sessions, the threats and opportunities likely to impact on public transport in the years ahead and the solutions in urgent need of development in order to pre-empt or accompany this change. The many innovative solutions already being implemented in certain spheres were outlined, but it was clear that the debate needs to be pursued further in other areas. In any event, the sector's stakeholders - operators, authorities, manufacturers, researchers - are aware of the challenges and doing all they can to meet them.
