The UN's Continuing Effort to Establish a Generic Approach for Dangerous Goods in Machinery, Apparatus, and Articles

Having dealt with a number of proposals on articles containing dangerous goods in recent biennia, the UN Sub-Committee under the leadership of the UK has sought to develop a generic approach for dealing with articles containing dangerous goods. Last biennium, the outstanding issues could not be resolved, so this work carries over into the new 2015-2016 biennium. At present the UK is informally circulating a draft based on comments received at the 46th session on their proposal in -2014/102 with the expectation that a new document will be submitted for the June 2015 47th session. There appears to be a lot of interest in doing something so one might expect that, at the end of the day, something will come of this effort. The document is a work in progress so additional changes may be expected. But at the same time, the discussion has now gone on for a number of UN sessions and one might expect that further revisions will likely be of a more minor nature.
