The economic distribution of demand deposits December 23, 1937

Demand deposits could be distributed according to size, banks, geographical regions, or by type of depositors. The present paper is concerned with the last mentioned type of distribution. The distribution of deposits by type of holder is a new field on which data have only recently become available, and the results that I shall present shortly must be regarded as tentative. They do, however, for the first time permit us to ascertain the approximate distribution by broad economic categories of the bulk of the money supply of the country.
