The relationship between home and learning has increasingly been a key area of attention for policymakers, educators, and researchers over the past 15 years at least. Technology has come to be at the heart of the development of strategies and interventions to drive these policies home. The parental role in what technologies are available in the home has been understood by the commercial sector as opening an important new market in affordable computers and edutainment software products. At the same time, and partly in response to the market and the need to ensure that all families can participate in it, the Government has led a number of schemes attempting to encourage and enable all households with children to engage in technology-mediated learning in the home, to varying degrees of success.
