Impact of RNAV/RNP on Complexity of Indian Air Traffic Flow

Introduction Air transportation in India is growing rapidly with increased traffic expected at major airports. This will require air traffic flow management system (ATFMS) capabilities with new tools to enable improved demand and capacity management. The objective of this paper is to estimate the potential impact of extensive use of area navigation / required navigational performance (RNAV/RNP) on the ATFMS. The approach is to examine the reduction in airspace complexity resulting from the use of RNAV routes connecting the top 16 airports in India.
