摘要

There are two strong forces that are now in the process of reshaping the terrain of the global economy: globalization and regionalization. Globalization has accelerated flows of people, goods, capital, information and ideas across national and regional borders, blurring boundaries and borders. It has affected not only socio-economic and political systems but also every dimension of human life in a fundamental way. As a reaction to globalization, regionalization has features of preferential trading arrangements with certain countries and an establishment of a regional network among them, protecting local industries and interests. However, as Kacowicz (1998) argues, globalization and regionalization cannot be assessed independently from each other, rather they should be understood as 'forces relative to and overlapping each other, sometimes antagonistic and sometimes cooperative toward each other'.
