In her ground-breaking volume, By the Renewing of Your Minds: The Pastoral Function of Christian Doctrine (Oxford University Press, 1997), Ellen T. Charry explored the notion of 'sapiential theology' and the necessarily formative role of Christian teaching. While clearly in continuity with the earlier volume, Charry delves into the question of the good life in her most recent work, God and the Art of Happiness. Here Charry seeks to understand the history of Christian reflection on happiness and to develop a theology that views the good life in Christian perspective.
