摘要

The present paper deals with investigating the effect of compaction characteristics like compaction pressure, sintering temperature and sintering time, compact shape (1/d ratio) and die-workpiece interfacial friction condition on the compact densification, strains and formability during forging of sintered metallic compacts. The cylindrical metal powder compacts were prepared by compacting the different metal powders, e.g. pure Copper and pure Aluminum powders within the closed circular cavity powder compaction die sets and subsequently sintering them at required temperatures. The compacts having different aspect ratios were fabricated subjected to different compaction pressure, compaction time, sintering temperature and sintering time. Finally, these compacts were forged under open-die condition at room temperature and various related deformation characteristics were measured. The main objective was to investigate the effect of these parameters on the forging characteristics to obtain defect free and high performance components. Also, the complex inter-relationship between the deformation parameters and compaction characteristics were analyzed using Design of Experiments and Response Surface Methodology techniques.
