Once Again, Alger Hiss

While working for the U.S. Government, Alger Hiss clearly spied on his employer for Stalin's Soviet Union. He escaped being tried for espionage because the statute of limitations had expired on his perfidy. Nevertheless, he was convicted of perjury for his insistence of innocence in the face of too much evidence otherwise. Allen Weinstein's monumental Perjury (1978) should have been the final word on Hiss's guilt, but such was not to be.
