Lin Hsiao-ting's account of Nationalist China on Taiwan-the Republic of China (ROC)-in the shadows of the Cold War does not rely on the revelations from indiscrete current or retired intelligence officers and government officials often found in intelligence history. Research Fellow and Curator of East Asian Collections at Stanford University's Hoover Institution, a graduate of two universities in Taiwan, and the holder of a doctoral degree in Oriental Studies from Oxford, Dr. Lin has instead dug into declassified government files in the government archives of several countries-in person and on line-read the journals and memoirs of key players in Taiwan's story, and examined the established secondary literature.
