Fish passage: Using technology to benefit fish, the environment and hydropower

The aim of increasing hydropower production at our dams, while still providing fish passage, is sometimes assumed not to be feasible. However, by moving towards more progressive ways of thinking about fish passage, whether upstream or downstream, it can be seen that technology, and a willingness to think differently, can bring fish and hydro into harmony. Embracing technology and innovation can lead to mutually beneficial solutions. Thus, advanced fish passage can simultaneously pay real dividends, for the fish, the environment and for hydropower dam owners.
