Retiring Founder Mebane Positions Unifi for Future

When G. Allen Mebane Ⅳ first began texturing synthetic fibers more than 35 years ago, he was excited by the possibilities. "This was a new business. It was darn interesting. You could do so many different things from what other people were doing," recalled the longtime head of texturing giant Unifi Inc. "New technology has always fascinated me." Thirty-six years ago, in 1964, the Greensboro native invested in and ran one small texturing company then another. In 1971 he co-founded Unifi, which under his leadership has become the world's largest producer and processor of textured yarns.
