JOHANNES LOHNE (1908-1993) REVISITED : DOCUMENTS FOR HIS LIFE AND WORK, HALF A CENTURY AFTER HIS PIONEERING RESEARCH ON HARRIOT AND NEWTON

The Norwegian historian of physics and mathematics, Johannes Lohne [pronounced Lu:na], who died almost two decades ago, has never reached the consciousness of many of his fellow historians. He was a school teacher in a small Norwegian town of 5.000 inhabitants, he had no Ph.D. and never held an academic position. He entered the historiography of science at the age of 50, and as a person he was shy and reclusive.
