ELEMENTOS TIERRAS RARAS EN PLANTAS VASCULARES. UNA REVISIÓN

Rare earth elements are increasingly used in industry, agriculture and medicine, constituting potential pollutants of soil, water and biota, so that the search of indicator or extracting plant species is of interest, as is the understanding of their tolerance mechanisms. Also, it is important to know the basal levels of these elements in plants growing in different environments, in order to diagnose the impact of their increasing use in new technologies. This review deals with their accumulation in vascular plants, the tolerance mechanisms, their role in plant functions, and the relationship between concentrations in plant and soil.%Los elementos tierras raras son utilizados cada vez más en la industria, agricultura y medicina, constituyendo contaminantes potenciales de aguas, suelos y biota, de tal manera que la búsqueda de especies vegetales indicadoras o fitoextractoras de esos metales es de interés, al igual que la comprensión de sus mecanismos de tolerancia. También es importante conocer los niveles base de estos elementos en plantas que crecen en diferentes ambientes a fin de diagnosticar el impacto que tiene su creciente uso en nuevas tecnologías. Esta revisión comprende su acumulación en plantas vasculares, los mecanismos de tolerancia, su papel en el funcionamiento de las plantas y la relación entre las concentraciones en plantas y suelos.
