New testing service for GM rice

Reading Scientific Services Ltd (RSSL) is to launch a new service to test for genetically modified (GM) rice. It follows a series of reports that rice imported from China has been contaminated with Bt63 rice, resulting in EU demands that all rice products of Chinese origin should carry a certificate stating that no Bt63 rice was detected.rnBt63 rice was developed in China, and possesses a resistance against insect pests through introduction of a gene from the soil bacterium Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt).
