Healthy effects of the Mediterranean-like diet and food supplementation

Over the past few years, several epidemiological and population based clinical trials have proven that daily diet can strongly affect human health and reduce the Incidence of certain diseases such as cardiovascular, cognitive and gastrointestinal. Among the main worldwide healthy diets, the Mediterranean one has been amply investigated in scientific literature for the strong beneficial action in the prevention of the major chronic diseases~(1-4). Based on the scientific evidence, the main healthy associations or institutions strongly encourage populations to adopt a Mediterranean "eating-stvle"~(1-4) Moreover, a recent meta-analysis of published prospective cohort studies about the relationship between Mediterranean eating and Incidence of chronic disease shifted the attention from a single nutrient intake to the dietary pattern as ə whole~(1-4) As a consequence, the intake of different active compounds naturally contained in Mediterranean plant foods can be considered as the "mile stone" strategy in the improvement and protection of population health.
