Survey and Analysis of Awareness on Environmental Health and Sanitation in Rural and Urban Areas of Jabalpur Division of Madhya Pradesh

Hygienic sanitation facilities play a crucial role in public as well as environmental health. Adequate sanitation, good hygiene alongwith safe water forms a fundamental basis for good health and thus for overall development of any nation. Mahatma Gandhi in 1923, also remarked, 'sanitation is more important than independence'. This study deals with the awareness related to environmental health and sanitation and the programmes launched by the Indian Government. It is a general survey of the sanitation awareness programmes and sanitation practices followed in both rural and urban areas of Jabalpur district. This paper focuses on sanitation as a precursor to maintain environmental health. A huge disease burden can be prevented with proper hygiene, sanitation and water supply, especially in developing countries. This study provides evidence of sanitation facilities in Jabalpur, reasons as to why such facilities are not progressive and ways and means in which to be dealt with such problems so as to sustain social and economic development.
