Climate Policies in 2017 Following the Entry into Force of the Paris Agreement: Outlook and Issues*

1. On October 5, 2016, the emissions of the countries that had ratified the Paris Agreement exceeded 55% of the world's total greenhouse gas emissions with the ratification by a number of EU Member States, and this lead to its coming into effect on November 4. In response to this, the 1~(st) session of the Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the Parties to the Paris Agreement (CMA 1) was held from November 15 in conjunction with the 22nd session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 22).
