At the time of writing, it looks increasingly likely that the 2010 General Election will result in a Conservative administration and so it is therefore an appropriate time to review the performance of the New Labour Government over the period since its election in 1997. Earlier in 2009, we saw the publication of The Spirit Level (Wilkinson & Pickett, 2009), which showed how unequal British society has become, particularly in comparison with many other countries. The publication of this volume by John Hills et al. adds to the evidence.
