ExxonMobil Chemical is implementing an advanced information system called GEMS (Global Enterprise Management Systems), which will be used in all its businesses worldwide by the end of this year. The platform, which supports common worldwide business processes - including procurement, production planning and quality management, customer orders, invoicing, delivery, accounts receivables and financial accounting - was first rolled out in the US in January. This means that ExxonMobil Chemical can receive orders, plan shipments and uniformly bill customers worldwide. This one system enables common worldwide businesses and has a single repository for all the data the businesses need to operate globally. The Asia Pacific phase went live in October last year. With this new tool, the company said it would be able to provide its customers with more timely information about their orders and the products they buy. When the project is complete late this year, all of ExxonMobil Chemical's business units across all regions will be linked in a single transaction processing and information system.
