In just under a year the current texts of the ADR and RID provisions regulating the carriage of dangerous goods by road and rail, respectively, within Europe will be out of date. Such was the pressure to ensure the plenary bodies of the two organisations would have the opportunity to review the proposed amendments due to enter into force on January 1, 2005 and such was the quantity of submissions that it proved necessary for the joint experts - i.e. the RID Safety Committee and the UN Economic Commission for Europe (ECE) Working Party on the Transport of Dangerous Goods (WP15) - to meet twice during the past autumn. Meetings were held in Geneva from September 1 to 10 and in Bonn between October 13 and 17. Delegates from 24 contracting states attended, along with representatives of the European Commission (EC), the Danube Commission, the intermediary administrative commission at Kosovo (MINUK.) and 12 non-governmental organisations.
