Vopak's first quarter results show a pleasing increase in operating profit and suggest a healthy future, which add confidence to the group's current expansion plans. Vopak's financial results for the first quarter 2005 show an improvement on operating profit, excluding exceptional items, of 22 per cent over the year earlier figure to ?42.2m. This improvement was attributed to favourable conditions in Asia and the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) oil division, which saw operating profits rise by 18 per cent and 31 per cent, respectively. Some ?4.3m was put aside for exceptional items, including a ?3m provision for restructuring the inland chemical barging division.
