Increasing pressure is being placed on the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) to amend the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) to require that both the ship and port facility receive a verified gross weight of containers before they are loaded on to the vessel. The International Association of Ports and Harbours (IAPH) recendy joined forces with the World Shipping Council (WSC), the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) and the Baltic and International Maritime Council (BIMCO) to work towards enforcing such an amendment.
