Electronic components industry places its mark on Xi'an

The development and manufacture of a variety of electronic component products is building up in Xi'an. The capital of the northwestern province of Shaanxi has been serving as a production and R&D base for the electronic components and semiconductor industries. More than 30 coaxial connector makers are based in Xi'an. Last year, four of the top makers ― Xi'an Connector Technology Co. Ltd, Shaanxi Huada Science & Technology Co. Ltd, Xi'an Xiongju Devel- opment Co. Ltd and Xi'an Forstar S&T Co. Ltd ― expanded their combined annual capacity from 2 million to 5 million units. The expansion was driven by the rising demand from the communications industry an'd military sector. Xi'an Connector specializes in the production of coaxial connectors and cable assemblies used in CDMA, SCDMA, SDH, GSM and 3G communication and network devices. The company forecasts a 20 percent growth in export sales in the coming years. Forstar will also boost its current monthly output of connectors and cable assemblies. "We will set up a new connector plant in a 33,000m~2 land at the Xi'an Hi-tech Industrial Development Zone that we have purchased. Once the plant becomes operational, our capacity will expand five times more," says Jerry Guo, general manager.
