A Simple column of rough Halifax stone stands on the village green at Skipton-on-Swale in Yorkshire acknowledging the wartime casualties incurred by four locally-based Canadian bomber squadrons. It also records that two fliers and one civilian lost their lives in August 1944 on that very spot. Handley Page Halifax III MZ828 'BM-H' of 433 (Porcupine) Squadron RCAF was captained by Fg Off Jim Harrison. His crew had joined 433 at Skipton in April 1944, when the unit was becoming increasingly involved in Bomber Command's 'tactical phase' in advance of the Normandy landings.
