Most of what we do in modeling is grounded in fantasy. The very existence of our hobby depends upon our being able to imagine our creations before we ever build them; and as they take flight, our fantasies soar with them. Some modelers are more imaginative than others, though, and it is a pleasure to begin this month's column with two models that exist because of the off-the-wall thinking of their creators. The first is the "wholly forgotten tri-plane, the Sopwith Snollygoster, built by reader Jim Smith of Lindenwold, NJ. As Jim notes, a "snollygoster" is defined as "an unprincipled but shrewd person".
