The design and use of warehouses can often be conducive to fire, so it is vital that risks are controlled. In view of the large quantities of combustible materials present in most warehouses, fires in these premises which are not detected and dealt with within the first few minutes soon reach major proportions. In such circumstances, there is little that even firefighters can do to contain them; in fact, firefighting activities are typically confined to attempting to stop fire spread to uninvolved exposed premises.
