摘要

THE FPA recently posted a web survey, which asked the question: 'After the recent fire at the block of flats in Barking, should combustible materials be banned on buildings under 18m (government guidelines only ban use over 18m)?' The background to this stemmed from the aforementioned Barking fire, where extensive and very rapid fire spread was experienced over wood clad balconies of a six storey apartment block. Reports speak of fire ingress into apartments and near misses which obviously, being lower than 18m, caused the appropriateness of any height threshold applied to the combustible ban to be called into question.
