MEPs hammer home message to states

There has to be a "strong political message to member states," said Anna-Maria Corazza Bildt (EPP, Sweden), as she presented, on 9 July, to fellow members of the Committee on Internal Market and Consumers (IMCO) the content of her own-initiative report entitled The internal market for services: State of play and next steps'. The report was adopted by 23 to two, with 13 abstentions. It urges the 28 to do more to implement the Services Directive (2006/123/EC) fully and correctly. The directive was not totally transposed until May 2012 although the states were supposed to have completed transposition by the end of 2009.
