Jean-Louis Tissier nous entraîne dans l'East Anglia de Sebald (Les Anneaux de Saturne), à travers la randonnée pédestre dans les terres désertes du Suffolk. Chemin faisant, Sebald nous montre un « paysage-histoire » au sens de Julien Gracq, mais aussi des expériences de ressaisie du passé par une archéologie matérielle du site. Il réaffirme au passage le vif sentiment géographique qui marque ses textes où l'expérience concrète du marcheur-rêveur-érudit bascule progressivement dans le souvenir historique pour dessiner un véritable « territoire de la mémoire ». Jean-Louis Tissier takes us to Sebald's own East Anglia (The Rings of Saturn), by way of walking trips across the deserted lands of Suffolk. Along the way, Sebald appears to show us the «history-landscape» as understood by Julien Gracq, as well as ferretting out past experiences with the help of a material archaeology of the site. Accordingly, Tissier emphasises the strong geographical sense imprinted in Sebald's texts, where the immediate experience of the walker-dreamer-erudite slowly falls back on historical memory as to allow for the mapping out of a genuine « territory of Memory ».
