Sustainable energy is hot, so any new idea is likely to be warmly received, whether it involves wind, solar or biomass derived energy. The Dutch province of Noord-Holland, which aims to have 20% of its energy generated sustainably by 2020, is showing interest in a recent innovation, the Sola-Road. This is a road top that also works as a solar panel. Harvesting solar energy requires a vast amount of space, so rooftops alone are insufficient. The ultimate dream would be for all 130,000 km of road surface in the Netherlands to be used for generating renewable energy. The
